Sep 29, 2026

AVMATS honored six current and retired employees during a distinguished ceremony recognizing their receipt of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award.

The prestigious award recognizes aviation maintenance professionals who have dedicated at least 50 years to the aviation maintenance industry and demonstrated a longstanding commitment to professionalism, expertise, and aviation safety. Named in honor of Charles Taylor, the mechanic who maintained and built the engine for the Wright Brothers' 1903 Flyer, the award recognizes lifetime achievement in the aircraft maintenance profession.

The six AVMATS employees honored were:

  •  Steve Bordogna
  •  Tony Dussold
  •  Tom Morehouse
  •  Larry Schneider
  •  Tom Stanton
  •  Andy Thurmond

The ceremony brought together AVMATS employees, colleagues, family members, and representatives from the FAA and the St. Louis Aviation Maintenance Association (SLAMA) to celebrate the remarkable careers and contributions of the six honorees.

"Reaching the level of experience and achievement represented by the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award is an extraordinary accomplishment." said Justin Giessman. "These six individuals have dedicated their lives to aviation maintenance and have made a lasting impact on AVMATS, our customers, and the aviation industry. We are proud to recognize their accomplishments and celebrate the knowledge, skill, and commitment they have shared throughout their careers."

For AVMATS, this recognition also reflects the depth of experience that has shaped the company's approach to aircraft maintenance and customer support, as well as the loyalty and dedication of the AVMATS workforce. The mentorship and knowledge passed down by these veteran professionals continue to play an important role in developing the next generation of technicians and maintaining the high standards expected in business aviation.

The Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award is among the FAA's highest honors for aviation mechanics. To qualify, recipients must have maintained a clean compliance record throughout 50 years of eligible aviation maintenance experience, with strict requirements related to FAA certification and background.

AVMATS congratulates Steve Bordogna, Tony Dussold, Tom Morehouse, Larry Schneider, Tom Stanton and Andy Thurmond on this significant achievement and thanks them for their decades of dedication to aviation maintenance.
